Welcome to the Noongar Season of Djilba!
This month, at our childcare Educational Leader meeting, our Educational Leaders explored the upcoming season Djilba’s medium of oil pastels. The season of conception spans across August and September, and is considered the transitional time of the year, bringing a combination of cold, clear days mixed with warm, rainy and windy days. The woodland birds are nest bound, hence the swooping protective behaviour of the koolbardi (magpie), djidi djidi (willy wag tails) and chuck-a-luck (wattle birds).
At Atlantis we’re passionate about supporting our educators in embracing a more comprehensive approach, weaving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives seamlessly into the fabric of their curriculum, rather than adding them as an afterthought.
